27th August, Silverstone Round 4 FunCup Championship

FunCup Academy at Silverstone 4 Hour Endurance

Only a week ago I was at Donington with Ben and Giles testing the FunCup cars - and a week later, we are entered in to Round 4 of the FunCup Championship at Silverstone.

What a diffrence a day makes, from glorious sunshine in testing to torrential rain and thunderstorms on race day! Ben and Giles had their work cut out.

With perfect conditions on Friday for testing, the Academy twin seater was on track all day giving driver training and tuition.

Ben and Giles were putting in some very good consistent lap times in the single seater, whilst learning the track and car.  Both looking forward to their first race on Saturday.

With the race starting under the safety car due to the rain and track conditions, you can only imagine how poor the visibility was out there! Ben and Giles drove superbly considering this was their first ever race - and a very wet race.  Failure with the window wipers made the visibility worse, but they ploughed on regardless.  Jay Shepherd jumped in for the last stints and the team finised 14th out of 23 cars!

Fantastic result - and very well deserved.  This championship is not easy to win!

Next race meeting is a 6 hour day to night race at the superb circuit of Anglesey 23rd/24th September 2016.

FunCup test day at Donington

The FunCup Academy had the pleasure of a full test day with drivers Ben and Giles at Donington on Saturday 20th August.

The morning started with both drivers having driver tuition in the twin seater training car, followed by an afternoon in the single seater race car.

Both Ben and Giles very much enjoyed their experience.  Ben later emailed 'I absolutely loved it - particularly in the afternoon when I felt like I was getting to grips with it more - still makes me smile now thinking of all those Caterham's around me and that they were so much slower in the corners - I was having to hang back....Aaahhhgggg - got the bug now! need to start saving!'

If you would like to experience the FunCup car, please contact the Academy on 07949 170031 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
